Britannia Fish Bar in Millwall stands out as a beloved local fish and chips takeaway, cherished for delivering traditional British fish and chips with a genuine touch. Nestled conveniently at 6, The Quarterdeck in London E14, this spot offers a well-curated menu that caters to anyone craving authentic, hearty fare. From cod and haddock to rock and plaice, each fish option is beautifully battered to achieve that perfect crispy exterior while maintaining a tender, flaky interior that melts in your mouth. The scampi and fish cakes also deserve a special mention—they’re generously portioned and brimming with flavor, providing that comforting, nostalgic punch that fish and chips aficionados cherish.
If chicken is more your style, Britannia Fish Bar serves up everything from single pieces of breast or thigh to multi-piece combos, all cooked to order and paired with crispy golden chips. Their hot wings and chicken nuggets provide a welcome variation, and for those seeking a flavorful twist, the combination kebabs offer a diverse option that’s both filling and tasty.
What truly elevates the experience here is the evident care behind each order. Customers frequently praise the freshness of the fish and the generous serving sizes, which offer real value without overwhelming your wallet. One patron described the cod as “crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside,” a testament to the skillful preparation that honors this classic dish’s essence. Staff friendliness and attentive service add a warm, approachable vibe, although during busy periods you might anticipate a short wait, a small price to pay for quality food made fresh to order.
Though payment options currently lean towards cash—something regulars have flagged due to occasional card machine glitches—this minor inconvenience doesn’t overshadow the consistently great experience. If you’re wandering through Millwall or nearby areas, craving an honest, satisfying fish and chips takeaway that balances tradition, taste, and value, Britannia Fish Bar is an exceptional choice worth stopping by.

1. Great taste; 2. Competitive price; 3. Large portion; 4. Not so fast during the peak; 5. The POS machine often gets a problem and you have to pay cash instead.

I was walking down with my wife and found this gem of a place. We brought 2 regular cod and chips. It was crispy on the outside flakey in the inside. The service was extraordinary thanks to the young gent that served me. Really do recommend this place! Keep it up gents!!!

Decent chippy. An excellent battered sausage. I just wish they’d do gravy. But still 5/5.

Massive portions and well priced. Mine took some time but was made fresh. Could this be the best fish and chips shop on the south side of the island? Note: no card machine!

Got myself Rock and Chips, food tasted great, staffs are friendly, portion of food is great, reasonably priced. Only the waiting time was a bit longer than expected but that’s absolutely forgivable as it wasn’t long enough to lose my patience. Would definitely recommend others.
